Panel doors construction.

6 panel doors consist of six wooden panels including three middle stiles and four middle rails dividing the frame into six parts of same thickness. Now cut all four rails to finished length keeping in mind that their length will determine the width of finished door. The perpendicular junctions of the stiles and rails are where the panels of the doors come to exist and the number of stiles and rails within the construction of the door will determine how many panels there can be. Using the straightforward process detailed here you can crank out great looking doors for many applications including furniture cabinets and built ins.

Frames use 3 4 thick stock with 1 4 panels in various materials and veneers. Frame and panel doors add class to any project but they don t have to add a lot of assembly time. The panels are made from timber plywood block board medium density fiberboard mdf veneer asbestos cement sheets pre laminated particle board glass wire mesh etc. While our doors are truly solid wood no thin veneer.

Make sure they are all exactly same length. A general purpose saw blade will do the job although a dado stack cuts smoother tenons. Also called rail and stile doors the advantage of this construction style is that the floating interior panels can shrink and expand with the weather without seriously affecting the overall fit of the door within a cabinet or passageway. In a panel door the construction consists of vertical lengths of wood called stiles and horizontal lengths of wood called rails.

Frame and panel doors use a form of construction in which large floating panels are held within a framework of horizontal rails and vertical stiles.
